Media, Education and Sex (The Death of Common Sense)

As if we didn't know this already, at least those with wisdom (no longer equated with common sense), a new study conducted by the Rand Corp. has recently received a lot of play in the media. Simply stated, teens who watch a lot of TV with sexual dialogue and behavior are much more likely to get pregnant, actually twice as likely (i.e., with the prerequisite activity of sex involved). Hmm… perhaps there's a connection between what we view/think about and our actions/subsequent outcomes?!?

Of course, if the mainstream media is involved by giving this a lot of play, so you know there has to be an agenda.

Read on to find out more about this agenda and the role of media and education in the destroying of Common Sense...

Any person with half a brain needs no study to tell them that what they fill their eyes and mind with ultimately affects their behavior and actions! Look no further than car insurance companies for real "common sense" when it comes to insuring drivers. They've never needed 'adolescent development studies', 'teen brain research' or any other kind of study to tell them what the simple outcomes very clearly demonstrate—teens and young adults, especially single males, are much more risky in their actions than those who are older. All they need are accident charts, and by looking at the results, they found that single teens and young adults, because they act and behave with greater risk, have many more accidents and therefore carry the greater burden and higher costs of insuring their vehicles. Common sense, in years past (and by that I mean 30+ years ago), when it was taught, lived out and founded on timeless principles in our homes, education system, and even in the early days of radio and TV, produced much better results.

While postmodern educational pundits, based on their "common sense" of data, research and studies, will decry that there is much more to it than this, those of us with the wisdom to see clearly what is right before us know there is a strong connection between thoughts, images and actions! What our indoctrination, er… education system, and media put before them will to a large degree determine their thoughts and actions!

The same is true with regard to sexual activity and the risks involved. Our education system from the early ’70s to the early ’90s continually and increasingly bombarded the youth with the message of "free sex” ...er, I mean "free speech," with the false promotion of condom and contraceptive "protection and safety"! The results (again those with wisdom know this is what matters) were a continued increase of sexual activity outside of marriage, teen and unwed pregnancies, abortions and STDs. All the while they touted their 'common sense' successes in terms of their "peer reviewed" or "blessed" studies that showed more and more of these same teens/young adults "wisely" using more contraception and condoms!

Tyra Banks recently appeared on “Good Morning America” with her survey that seemingly "shocked" her to find out what teen girls were actually doing when it came to sexual activity! Along with those in the mainstream media who touted the aforementioned study, the agenda was to promote the same programs ("contraceptive promotion and free sex", otherwise, wrongly labeled "comprehensive sex education") that got us there in the first place. Where’s Common Sense?

Miley Cyrus, aka, Hannah Montana, when interviewed for her "sexy" pose for Vanity Fair, mentioned in the first paragraph that her favorite TV show (mind you that this was a 15-year-old) was "Sex and the City"! And we wonder if there is a connection. But with our "common sense" we cry otherwise because there is no "study" to prove that her viewing such sexual garbage could ever lead to her "sexy" posing!?! Where's Common Sense? BTW, I really wish her the best and that someone would give her come wisdom and guidance as my wife and I enjoyed her Disney TV show right along with our kids—but we don't watch it anymore because we know that what our kids see and hear about the show's star will impact them. We still have a little good 'ole common sense!

Of course, the same people that bring you "comprehensive sex ed" would think nothing of her posing half nude as a teenager and in provocative positions with her father as their agenda is "free sex" er, there I go again, "free speech"!

You see, wisdom still exists for those who "bitterly cling" to timeless truths instead of following those who reinvent them as the new "common sense" to fit their own agendas! But, today's common sense has been "hijacked" by our ‘indoctrination’, oops, education system that no longer teaches creative and critical thinking but simply calls it "creative" and "critical" while disguising the path they lead our youth down. This, along with government's continued reliance on "research" that comes directly from this same "indoctrination," oops again, education system continues to feed this new "common sense" which is really not common sense at all and is certainly void of wisdom!

Paraphrasing what Abraham Lincoln correctly stated, "The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government and media in the next." (Italics added and mine) As evidenced by these studies and surveys, we are certainly reaping the consequences of what has been taught in the past couple of generations in the classroom in our media, government, current classrooms and, sadly but most importantly, in the lives of our young people as evidenced in the recent media/teen pregnancy study and Tyra Banks survey.

What will it take for us to return to the 'common sense' that comes from wisdom and timeless principles rather than continue to use the system by those who manipulate it for their own financial and influential benefits making it sound like they are the "experts," while all along real wisdom tells us not only what these studies clearly show but how we need to respond to them. That's what we do at Heritage as we use good solid wisdom and common sense along with studies and research that we know is making a positive difference in the lives of young people and their futures.

Abstinence and Healthy Relationship education programs are evidence-based as we’re certainly for good research. Beyond that, they are also full of real wisdom and real "common sense" that empowers youth to make good decisions presently and also helps them to develop their own goals and values to help them reach them and have successful futures and future relationships as well!

Just think what would happen if our entire education system would adopt a return to real 'common sense'?!? Just imagine what future governments and media would look like?

Check us out on the web at www.heritageofky.org and find a way to join us for the sake of our youth, their futures, and for common sense!
